I read recently a passage of scripture that I’d never really seen before. It’s a story you’ve heard a lot of times. Moses, Pharoah, plagues, go, no stay, go, no stay. You get the idea. It says in the book of Exodus 8 that Pharoah told Moses the Israelites could leave. Frogs had been the curse God had brought on the Egyptians and they were everywhere. I’ll let you and your imagination run wild as to where the most inconvenient spots to have frogs pop up might be and chances are that’s where they were. So Pharoah says to leave….”TOMORROW”. Does that make sense to anyone??? Did Pharoahs wife have a say in this as she tried to side step frogs getting ready in the morning? Did he ask his chef as he tried to find food in the palace that wasn’t covered with frogs? Did he ask his kids who woke up in bed with frogs all over them? Why in the world would he wait until tomorrow?
It was interesting to me that this particular passage was brought to my attention as I’m contemplating a major fundraising campaign for HYC. You know what my favorite line has been when thinking this idea through these past few weeks? “Tomorrow”. My thought has been that’s a great idea, let’s do it “tomorrow”. Truthfully, my “tomorrow” is more like next year or the year after that. Why I think I’ll have more time or life will be less hectic in a year or two is beyond me but that’s what I’m thinking when I say “tomorrow”. Pharoahs response was less than intelligent so too is my response when I, like Pharoah say “tomorrow”. There are pews in the Miracle Building that are on the verge of hurting people in a very serious way if they are not replaced soon. There are kitchen appliances that quite possibly are older than me that need to be replaced. There are cabins that we have made slow progress on in recent years that need to be finished with new paneling and flooring in bathrooms. New mattresses are not a nice idea but are a necessity this coming summer. In one of the greatest sports movies of all time Rocky III, Apollo Creed is training Sylvestor Stallone for the upcoming fight against Clubber Lang (aka Mr. T). Amidst a less than impressive work out session Apollo asks Stallone what his problem is and Stallone responds with “tomorrow, let’s do it tomorrow.” At this point Apollo screams at him with fury, “There is no tomorrow”!
To put action to my thinking, and believing there is no tomorrow, I’m planning a trip to camp the end of October to remove pews from the auditorium. If time permits, I will take out the carpet as well. Paneling has been removed from some of the girls cabins with other cabins to follow suit soon after. With the completion of those projects there will be
no turning back. We are no longer waiting for tomorrow. We are taking action and doing it today. We are looking to raise $200,000. I am no longer hesitant or waiting for these improvements to take place. They will start now. More information will be coming as to how you can help in this venture. From the start we would ask that you pray daily for this endeavor, remembering the words of Paul who said in Ephesians 3:20 “Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us.” Please pray that God will do just that in our ABUNDANT campaign this year.
