Have a question not covered by the
list below? Click here to
e-mail it, and we'll send an answer right away!

 |
What denomination is HYC
associated with? None - Hiawatha is a non-denominational camp
geared to spreading the gospel of Christ to all who come. Pastors,
missionaries, Christian workers, and young people from all across
the nation cite their time and decisions made at Hiawatha as the key
point in their lives. |
 |
How may different churches bring
campers to HYC? In 2002, 125 different churches were represented
with campers, staff, and visitors to the camp. They came from
Michigan, Florida, Georgia, Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio, Indiana,
California, and many other states. |
 |
How is HYC funded? The camp is
supported by monthly Pledge Partners, special events, and a limited
amount of offerings during the summer. If you are interested in
becoming a Pledge Partner, please visit the
Financial
Support page
for more information. |
 |
Where is HYC located? The camp
is nestled in the stunningly beautiful setting of the Hiawatha
National Forest in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. 50 miles over the
Mackinac Bridge, just 20 minutes from Tahquamenon Falls, on the
shores of Piatt Lake, Hiawatha has been blessed with one of the most
spectacular locations in America.

 |
Why does HYC only operate during
the summer? It's c-c-c-cold in the Upper Peninsula, and the
original construction of the camp did not include plans for winter
activities. The simple answer would be to insulate and chop extra
firewood, but that answer doesn't take into account the travel
difficulties church groups would encounter during the winter months
in northern Michigan. |
 |
Is your staff paid for their
summer ministry? Barely. First year staff members are paid
$25 per week. The amount increases by $5 for each additional
year they have been on staff. Working at HYC is a ministry, a gift
of time and service. Many staff members and their families make
sizable sacrifices in order to be at camp. |
 |
How can I be on staff?
The young people that serve on the HYC staff are
dedicated to the teaching and care of our weekly guests. Many have
gone on to serve the Lord in various capacities around the globe. If
you are interested in being part of the HYC staff, please

 |
What is a Saturday Celebration?
Each Saturday night, the top Christian musical artists in the nation
come to HYC for a full length concert. The evening serves as a
launch pad for the campers' week of excitement, and also brings an
average of 650 people to the camp for the concerts. Artists
including: Larnelle Harris, Mark Lowry, Steve Green, The Speer
Family, Buddy Green, The Talleys, and more have made their way to
the HYC platform over the years. All Saturday Celebrations are free
events, with an offering taken to meet the cost of the evening.
